I mean, they say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time.

one hundred thousand pieces by ~jabberholic

This digital painting is so realistic that it looks like a photo. It’s hard to paint like this because often you may feel the need to define things more… or to fix things up… until it no longer looks real. For example, if I were painting this, I’d probably feel the need to define the tapir’s legs and face more, so they don’t blend into the blackness, but that would probably ruin it. Realistically things don’t always work like that.

The problem is that our brains put in the details for us, and then we feel like we need to draw it in. This can help sometimes, but other times it’s better to ignore it… or to use this as an advantage (this artist didn’t need to define eyes or a back leg because our eyes do it already).

This artist is obviously talented, but sometimes it takes a little more thinking/observing to see the exact amount of talent.

The concept, drawing, and colouring in this picture make it a very inspiring piece. The idea is very original and surreal, and the amount of detail is impressive. If you look closely, you can see all the tiny lines and dots in the bodies of the creatures. The concept is well-done and it’s interesting seeing how everything melts together.

Practically every colour was used in this, yet they all fit together very nicely, making it a very vibrant drawing. The picture is also very nicely balanced… the less-detailed parts of the piece (on the top and bottom) even each other out, without taking away from the middle.

This is a really stunning and creative piece. I suggest you look at the large version of this picture because there is much to see!

You don’t need detail and perfection to make something visually appealing.

I love all kinds of visual art, but the night sky is definitely my favourite thing to look at. Admiring the scale of it often plants deep thoughts inside your brain, and it’s almost hypnotizing. I don’t see stars often because I live in the city, so I often look at pictures of space or listen to the Wall-E soundtrack.

I think the artist made this piece by cutting out a boy-shaped piece of paper, sticking it onto their page, and painting in watercolour over it. There also would have been tape for the borders. Then when they finished they probably took away the boy-shaped paper and the tape, and painted white stars everywhere on top. It also could have been made by a stamp or print.

I like dissecting how art is made because it helps me learn. I wish I could paint space landscapes like this. It will be my next mission.

HEDGEHOGS baking BREAD by ~solangiana

What a cute scene! The style is quite charming and the border adds a nice simplicity to it. The colours are warm and cheerful. Overall, this piece is absolutely adorable and captivating.

A wonderful ink drawing with a sort of story behind it. Ink is tricky because you only have two shades, so you have to be really creative with textures. The water is done amazingly considering this. And the hair.

The watercolour helps add to the dark theme of the drawing but it’s not overdone (which it good because otherwise it’d take away from the line art)!

Heathland by ~Ginnunga

This line art looks great when it’s combined with paint. The weight of the lines in the foreground help bring things out closer to you, and the barely-there lines in the back help everything else fade away into the fog/mist. This scene looks nice and warm because of the hints of red and yellow everywhere. The line shading in the rocks is also really nice. I prefer line shading to crosshatching because it looks much neater. Most of the time.

Fabric can be really hard to paint. This fabric is painted simply but believably, and all the shades are very nicely done. If you look at the green sheet, you can even see bits of orange from the light bouncing off the cat’s fur. This kind of light-bouncing helps tie things together. The texture in the cat’s fur looks quite touchable - especially around the head and tail. Overall this is a very cozy scene and it’s very nicely done!
