It’s hard to paint like this because often you may feel the need to define things more… or to fix things up… until it no longer looks real. For example, if I were painting this, I’d probably feel the need to define the tapir’s legs and face more, so they don’t blend into the blackness, but that would probably ruin it. Realistically things don’t always work like that. The problem is that our brains put in the details for us, and then we feel like we need to draw it in. This can help sometimes, but other times it’s better to ignore it… or to use this as an advantage (this artist didn’t need to define eyes or a back leg because our eyes do it already). This artist is obviously talented, but sometimes it takes a little more thinking/observing to see the exact amount of talent. |
